Letting Up Despite Great Faults made their official debut in 2006 with a understated yet powerful EP titled Movement. The 7 song collection gave a quiet glimpse of Letting Up’s unique ability to combine both organic and inorganic instruments into a world free of formulas and clichés. It received acclaim from the likes of NPR, KissAtlanta, 3Hive, CNET, and many more. "I Hear You Drowning But I'm Tied" is a recommended listen by Ben Gibbard and "Disasters Are Okay" found its way onto the television show One Tree Hill. All songs on the Movement EP were written and produced by Michael Lee and recorded in Irvine and Silverlake, CA. Some songs were also performed by Kent Zambrana (bass, mandolin, vocals), Patrick Staples (guitar, vocals), Nia Allen (cello), and Joann Whang (cello). Movement's album art was done by Erland Adargas.
Letting Up’s studio intellect and dexterity shine even more in their 2nd EP, I’ll Be Your Colours (forthcoming Summer 2008). Written by Lee, the EP is arranged and performed with the help of Kent (bass), Colin Heck (keys, clarinet), Chris Gregory (drums), Patrick (guitar), Lorealle Bishop (vocals), Amy Izushima (vibraphone), and Toshiaki Arai (mixing, mastering). The songs seamlessly jump from an electro, synthetic base to indie rock and pop sentiments with a natural sincerity and sound that is a gem to find in their home of Los Angeles. The album art is by Mike Lemanski.
Letting Up will be supporting Miss Vintage on their nation-wide tour from Sept 18 - Oct 18. Check the shows page for more details.
"A shining beacon of pop sensibility in the purest sense with dance beats and melancholy vocals that all produce a bitter sweet package." - Analog Scene
